3 Huge Benefits of Using a Laser Distance Meter

We’ve had the pleasure of selling laser distance meter tools for the last few years to customers all across the nation. From the moment our CEO, Adam Dirig, picked up a laser distance meter for his own field dimensioning and cabinetmaking work, he’s been passionate about what these tools can do, and excited about bringing the many benefits to other woodworkers, surveyors, and more. Here are 3 major benefits that you can experience by using a laser distance meter in your work!

1. Save Time Consider the amount of time that you spent surveying/dimensioning/templating your last job. How long did it take for you to get to your job site, bust out your tape measure, take your multiple dimensions, and scratch down all of your measurements with your pencil? What about the time it took after you got back to your office to transfer that data into your preferred system?

With a laser distance meter, your time put into this process is easily cut in half, if not more. Even for more complicated jobs, you would simply set up your device in a secure location, point your laser device to the needed distance point, and push a button. Many devices, such as the DISTO D810 Touch, have added features that can record your measurements, and even transfer your data instantly to your smartphone, tablet, or laptop via Bluetooth technology to save you time on jotting down numbers.

2. Save Money

By now in your career, you’re well-aware that less time spent on the job equals more savings for you. After all, time is money. For example, if you scored a huge job that required you to be onsite for two-days, but you were able to accomplish the same amount of work in only one day with a laser distance meter, you just saved on all of the associated expenses that would’ve gone into your hotel, food, and expenses for the extra day. Also, consider what goes into measuring the “traditional” way. On top of spending more time on-site, you also may have to hire a helping hand to hold your tape for you. This second on-site employee is definitely unnecessary with a laser distance meter.

3. Increase Measurement Accuracy

Even the most basic DISTO model, the e7100i, can take measurements of up to 200 feet with the accuracy of +/- 1/16 inch. While it’s possible to get that kind of accuracy with a tape, it takes a lot of work to do so. The main functionality of these devices is to increase the accuracy of the measurements taken, to produce the best possible set of measurements to work with on your projects.

Would you agree that compared to the “traditional” land-line phone, your smartphone has saved you time and money, and increased your productivity? Just as the smartphone has become an amazing alternative to traditional land-lines, so laser distance meters have become a better option than measuring tape for any job, large or small. There are many more benefits that using a laser distance meter can bring to workers of all professions, but we’ll focus on more of them in future blog posts. Saving time and money, and increasing your measurement accuracy are among the most obvious benefits that you can experience immediately after purchasing a unit.
