Review: New DISTO D2 w/ Bluetooth 4.0

Leica Geosystems is set to release a new version of the beloved DISTO D2 to the product line-up. The new D2 is expected to ship within the next 2 weeks.

We're projecting that this new D2 will be one of our best-sellers.

Why?

For starters, look at that new, sleek design! Leica has also made many more upgrades from the original D2 to this one, and has added an entirely new feature, not seen on any other DISTO before. Let's get into the specifics.

Probably the most notable upgrade from the original D2 that we're most excited about is the welcome addition of Bluetooth 4.0 technology. With this new D2, you can now connect to any Apple iOS or Android device using the free Leica Sketch App. This will allow you to transfer your measurements almost instantaneously from your DISTO to your smart device when working with floor plan mapping, or marking up an image with measurements. The inclusion of Bluetooth technology in this new D2 closes the current wide gap of available devices that offer Bluetooth. Currently, the first model in the Bluetooth series is the E7100i with a price point of $149. The next available model with Bluetooth technology is the E7500i, set at a price point of $599. The new D2 closes the gap at $199.

Leica also increased the measuring range of the new D2 to 330ft as compared to the current 197ft. In terms of range, this increase in function makes the D2 outshine the E7100i, E7300, and the E7400x models.
